More Active Citizens for Fitter and Healthier India by Major General (Dr) Pritam Bishnoi, VSM

This book ‘More Active Citizens for Fitter and Healthier India’ provides an action plan to make India free of the avoidable burden of non-communicable diseases specially post COVID-19 pandemic. It is emphasised by the World Health Organization (WHO) that, “…Physical activity has significant health benefits for hearts, bodies, and minds.” It has been seen that since armed forces personnel are involved in structured as well as unstructured physical activity, impact of COVID-19 was significantly reduced, thereby establishing the importance and benefits of physical activity. Further, the WHO notes that, “…People who are insufficiently active have a 20% to 30% increased risk of death compared to people who are sufficiently active.” In light of this, the book provides a step-by-step approach for everyone to be physically active, everyday and everywhere. The multi-sectoral action plan for active people, active society, active environment and active ecosystem will lead to implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in India by 2030. Age appropriate protocols and guidelines for physical activity issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and WHO mandates 75 minutes to 150 minutes of physical activity as per the age group. Healthy citizens and healthy families will make healthy India. Physical activity helps everyone to be physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, socially, financially, professionally and environmentally healthy.
